Jeff Probst reacts to first “Survivor” hosting Emmy nomination in 13 years
The four-time winner is back in the game.
There was a time when all Jeff Probst did was win Emmy awards. The host and showrunner for Survivor was the winner of the somewhat awkwardly named Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Competition Program for the first four years the award was given out, taking home the trophy from 2008 through 2011.
But then something strange happened. Not only did Probst stop winning, but the guy could not even get nominated — not scoring a single Emmy nomination since 2011. Never mind that the OG reality master of ceremonies was the only host working out in the elements (in a monsoon, in over 100 degree weather, getting knocked over by waves, etc…), and never mind that he did it all without an earpiece feeding him lines and info from a producer. For some weird reason, the Emmys just started ignoring the best in the business, leading many to wonder: Why do the Emmys hate Jeff Probst?

Well, the inexplicable dry spell is finally over, as a terrible wrong has finally been righted. Probst received his first hosting Emmy nomination in 13 years on Wednesday, joining a field for the 76th Emmy Awards that also includes RuPaul Charles (RuPaul’s Drag Race), Alan Cumming (The Traitors), Kristen Kish (Top Chef) and the Sharks of Shark Tank (Daymond John, Barbara Corcoran, Mark Cuban, Lori Grenier, Kevin O’Leary, and Robert Herkavec). The winner will be reveled with the 2024 Emmys air Sept. 15 on ABC.
Considering that the nominations were announced at 3:30amET Fijian time (where Probst is currently filming season 48 of Survivor), the orange baseball hat enthusiast was most likely sleeping when the news came through, but the Hostmaster General eventually awoke to the pleasant surprise.
While Survivor missed out on a nomination in the Outstanding Competition Program category, losing out to The Amazing Race, RuPaul's Drag Race, Top Chef, The Traitors, and The Voice, the show did receive nomination for Outstanding Cinematography for a Reality Program, joining The Amazing Race, Life Below Zero, The Traitors, and Welcome to Wrexham.

So while it was not a clean sweep for Survivor, two out of three ain’t bad, and Probst reacted to the news on social media, writing “Sending a big thank you to the Academy members from the shores of Fiji for the Survivor Emmy nominations.”
Whether Probst can “dig deep” to topple hot newcomer Alan Cumming in the host category remains to be seen, the fact that the four-time winner is finally being nominated again after a 13-year absence is at least a step in the right direction. It seems he has been voted back onto the island after all.
