Jamie Lee Curtis Promises the Return of Lindsay Lohan’s “Freaky Friday” Band Pink Slip in “Freakier Friday” (Exclusive)

Lohan also teased that an upcoming song from the fictional band will tug “on your heartstrings”

Jamie Lee Curtis is shedding some light on whether Freaky Fridays iconic rock band Pink Slip is returning for the sequel.

The Halloween Ends star, 65, shared in an interview with PEOPLE at D23 on Friday, Aug. 9, that fans can expect to see callbacks in Freakier Friday to the original film — including the reunion of its “Ultimate” musicians.

“Pink Slip is back, let's put it that way,” Curtis said of the fictional band, which is comprised of Lindsay Lohan, Christina Vidal and Haley Hudson’s characters Anna, Maddie and Peg. All three of the actresses are returning for the sequel.

Lohan, 38, teased that fans may even be seeing more of the band in their new film. “When we were [filming the songs, audience members] were like, ‘Encore!’ And we were like, ‘We only have one song, we didn't think this through!’ ” she said. “But there are more songs in this movie.”

“Let me just say this. There's a song in this new movie that is going to the...” Curtis began, to which Lohan added, “It tugs on your heartstrings.”

“It will be a very popular song,” the Oscar winner continued. “It'll be the song of the summer next summer. I guarantee it. And I'm an old lady and so you should trust me on this.”

The Mean Girls actress revealed that they have already started filming scenes with the band for the Freaky Friday sequel and noted that the “reaction” they received from the people around them made her realize the true impact of the fictional band.

“Last night we were filming a scene. I'll say, we bring some things back,” she teased. “But just seeing the reaction that people had to it, was so heartwarming. Like I almost wanted to cry because I didn't realize how Pink Slip really became so huge.”

On June 24, Walt Disney Studios confirmed that filming for the Freaky Friday sequel was underway as they shared a photo of Curtis and Lohan on set. The actresses were seen sitting in front of each other’s trailers while holding hands and striking poses reminiscent of their "swapped" roles in the first film: Lohan with a smile and Curtis "rocking out."

The film is directed by Nisha Ganatra and written by Jordan Weiss. While the plot details have been mainly kept under wraps, Entertainment Weekly reported that the plot would revolve around Lohan and Curtis’ characters switching bodies with two teenage girls.

Curtis and Lohan will reprise their roles as mother-daughter duo Tess and Anna, respectively. Additionally, original cast members Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky and Rosalind Chao will also be back in the sequel. 

The Freaky Friday sequel will be released in 2025.
