His longtime gig as the Today show’s entertainment reporter saw Richard Wilkins meet and greet some of the world’s biggest—and likely most demanding—stars.

But any witnessed diva behaviour has certainly not rubbed off on the 65-year-old, who was chose to fly economy with his influencer son Christian on Sunday.

Economy state of mind

During their jaunt from Brisbane to Sydney after the Australian Commercial Radio Awards on Saturday night, the social media star asked his famous dad to review the notoriously-basic style of flying.

Summing up the experience as ‘compact’, Richard was captured in some now-deleted Instagram stories manoeuvring through the plane in an all-black ensemble with matching shades.

In another snap, the presenter seemed unimpressed by the facilities as he gazed out the plane’s window during the one hour flight.

But once moved to a middle row seat, Christian confirmed his dad was much more at ease with the economy experience.

“Happy to report Richard Wilkins is back in his comfort zone,” he wrote.

Despite remaining on Nine’s entertainment editor, the past 12 months have marked a change in Wilkins’ career after he was replaced by 31-year-old Brooke Boney as Today’s entertainment reporter.

Richard’s TV switch-up

Instead, he now appears on the supplementary show Today Extra, but previously told The Sunday Telegraph he’s more than happy to share the load.

“The entertainment beat just continues to get bigger and bigger all the time and it’s no longer a one-man job, and with the show having a complete reset I’m thrilled and delighted to be welcoming Brooke on board,” he said.
