This item of clothing could score you a flight upgrade

If you’re like most of us and have spent your entire life travelling in economy class, then you won’t be alone in wanting any sort of way to score an upgrade on a flight.

And it turns out you don’t have to smile, beg, or plead with the ‘friendly’ check-in staff, or be super sociable with the cabin crew – it never works, believe me I have tried.

Scoring a flight upgrade can simply come down to what you wear to the airport, according to a couple of flight attendants.

“It’s all about looking the part. Smart but understated,” a crew member revealed to Who What Wear.

Despite what you might think, it’s not about being a clothing rack for designers.

You should look like you travel often,” she continued. “But don’t be dripping in designer clothing.

“It helps; someone who is potentially due to get an upgrade can be knocked back if they aren’t dressed suitably.”

Women should steer clear of jeans and sneakers, another flight attendant revealed.

Turns out, all you need to have handy is a blazer.

“I always go for tight black trousers and a blazer or a dress. It definitely helps your chances,” the crew member reveals.

For men, chinos or trousers and a shirt are the best options.

If a blazer is not your thing, the fashion blog also suggested a few other styles, often used by celebrities when flying.

  • Jeans and a polished top

  • A jumpsuit with heels

  • Tailored separates

  • A pantsuit
