I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! star Simon Gregson admitted to smuggling contraband into the castle on Thursday night’s show – and used it to season the camp’s dinner.

The Coronation Street actor confessed he had brought salt and pepper – which contestants are banned from using – into Castle Gwrych’s walls.

Gregson told the camera he had brought in a “tiny” amount concealed in a toothpaste tube.

“A tiny bit to lift the mood of the fellow campmates,” he said, while also adding: “The food is terrible so I smuggled in a tiny bit of salt and pepper.”

Justifying his misdemeanour, Gregson claimed he had been “driven” to commit this “miniscule crime”.

It was used to flavour the dinner for the evening which saw the campmates dine on sausages after Frankie Bridge and Naughty Boy successfully earned the maximum number of meals, although the trial did take an emotional toll on Bridge.

When the show cut back to hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, the presenters joked about the consquences for Gregson’s actions.

Let’s charge them with assault. Assault and peppery,” McPartlin jested.

The show returned on Tuesday night after being off air for a number of days when Storm Arwen caused damage to the programme’s production base.

The contestants were moved into hotel isolation before being taken back to Gwrych Castle on Tuesday.

Wednesday’s episode saw the presenters share other items the stars had attempted to sneak back into the castle after the temporary break from filming.

The celebrities had tried to smuggle in items including sweets, coffee and fake tan.
