I’m A Celebrity viewers divided after Beau Ryan quits: ‘Zero respect’

Beau Ryan shocked fans and fellow campmates alike during Thursday night’s episode of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! when he abruptly announced that he was quitting the show.

The former NRL star gathered his co-stars around to deliver an emotional speech about why he was leaving, explaining that he missed his family and had to go home.

“As you know, the last couple of days I've been struggling, today I was a bit broken. It's been really hard for me, I’m not going to lie to you,” he began.

“The reason I did this show is to test myself, which I have. I've shown Australia the good, bad and ugly of me. I've had some moments I regret, some moments I don’t, but I'm proud of everything that's happened.”

Beau went on to say that he was grateful for the bonds made in the jungle and “can’t explain” his feelings towards the group, but he needed to return to his wife Kara and their two children, eight-year-old Remi and three-year-old Jesse.

“I remember growing up there was a guy that lived two houses down from me and their dad was always away for work. And I don't want to be that dad,” he continued.

“My kids need their dad. My wife needs a husband, and I need to find myself back… I came in here to prove something to myself. I can't gain anything else from this show. So call it what you like, but my journey here is over, and I love you guys.'

The TV host then became the fourth star in the show’s history to say the famous words ‘I’m a celebrity… Get me out of here!’, following tennis pro Bernard Tomic, former professional boxer Anthony Mundine, and comedian Mel Buttle.

Shortly after his on-screen exit, Beau posted a video on Instagram reuniting with his family after five weeks away.

“The jungle beat me. It’s time to go home,” he captioned the emotional clip.

Meanwhile, a number of viewers took to Twitter to share their mixed opinions about his self-elimination.

“You are also leaving your charity, which is why you are there, Beau. Zero respect from me,” one person wrote.

“I think I would care more about this exit if Beau didn't complain about lack of food all the time, act like a child about the lack of food, and didn't eat more rice than he should’ve,” another added.

“If he doesn’t want to be a parent who’s always travelling I wonder if he won’t host Amazing Race anymore,” a third tweeted, followed by another who remarked, “Given the amount of time Beau is away from home for his work, I’m not sure I accept the reasoning. But sure. Bye.”

Others said they were shocked Beau was the one who decided to leave but called him “a good family man” for wanting to go back home to his kids.

“This might be the most honourable thing he's done. Good for you, Beau,” one user wrote.

“This is so sad and heartbreaking. Beau has an awesome personality and he’s hilariously funny,” another replied, while someone else tweeted, “He's honestly brave for leaving the show because he misses his family”.
