It's not every day you get to nibble on a piece of furniture that you've just assembled, but this silly season Ikea is giving Aussie shoppers an extra special Christmas treat.

The Swedish home goods giant has just released six cookie stencils in the shape of iconic Ikea furniture pieces to help customers create their very own mini gingerbread homes.

The bespoke stencils include the famous BILLY bookcase, the STRANDMON chair and the MALM bed frame — and best of all, they're completely free to download.

All bakers have to do is print and cut out the templates, position them on some rolled-out gingerbread dough and carefully trace around each piece then pop them in the oven, construct and decorate.

And no, unlike assembling the human-sized equivalents, putting together the biscuit tables and chairs doesn't require an Allen key.

For those lacking time (or chef skills), Ikea is making it even easier to get involved in the festivities by stocking all your gingerbread essentials.

Its annual VINTERSAGA collection includes frozen gingerbread dough, baking glue, lollies and key utensils to bake up a storm starting at an affordable $2.

Baking not your thing at all? Buy your gingerbread house pre-baked and do the final touches yourself — or just eat it as-is.

The gingerbread stencils are part of Ikea's downloadable 'Christmascape' kits which include Cooking with Kids, Sustainable Table Decorations and Balcony and Outdoor Spaces kits.
