IKEA Australia has launched a new range of products this month that includes a “super limited” cult homeware item that normally costs up to $110.
Shoppers have shared their excitement online after finally being able to get their hands on the Swedish giant’s bespoke candle range developed in collaboration with fragrance brand Byredo, but for just a fraction of the price.
If you haven’t heard of the brand before, it’s favoured among celebrities, featuring on many a popular Instagram feed - particularly the Gypsy Water perfume.
The scents are so in right now, people are willing to shell out hundreds of dollars - specifically $110 for the candles and up to $435 for a bottle of perfume.
Whereas the OSYNLIG candle range, curated with Byredo founder, Ben Gorham, will feature 13 different scents for just $9.
One excited shopper took to TikTok to share his excitement at the new items, wasting no time to snap up some of the bargain candles.
“I love candles and perfumes, Byredo being one of my fav perfume brands,” user @adrianwidjy said.
“I went a little crazy as they are hella affordable,” he continued, adding you can also grab a medium size for $19, or a large one with three wicks for $49.
“I bought six... oops. I love the aesthetic of these candles and thought they could be used as a cup afterwards.”
Others were quick to leave comments on the clip also sharing their love for the new range.
“They look beautiful,” one person wrote.
While another said: “I just picked up 7!”
Ikea creative leader James Futcher said in a statement the collection was designed so customers could mix and match “to make their own personal scent”.
“We made 13 that work on their own but there’s no reason why you shouldn’t mix and match them if that creates a good feeling for you,” he said.
Surveys show that smell is the sense that we most associate with home, and that over 40 per cent of people think their homes have their own, recognisable scent.
IKEA explained to help develop the fragrances they brought in students from the Royal College of Art to explore the potential of invisible design – the idea that it’s not just what your home looks like that affects how it makes you feel.
OSYNLIG is Swedish for ‘invisible’, with Byredo founder Ben Gorham adding “The way your home smells is very emotional and plays a huge part in how you feel being there.”
The candles are now available across IKEA stores however people need to get in quick as stocks are very limited.
If you do miss out on the bargain range at IKEA, there are ways to get your hands on some of the popular candles at a slightly discounted rate through catch.com.au.
Currently, for example, the website has the Byredo Scented Candle 70g - Bibliotheque for $52.
