I never use our new Dyson V11 – here's why

I’d love to tell you how good the new Dyson vacuum cleaner is and how much I love using it, but sadly, I can’t.

Not because it’s subpar, mind you. It’s just that since we got it, my husband won’t let me have a turn. He’s completely monopolised the vacuuming and I can’t get a look-in.

Earlier this year, Dyson released an update to their world-famous cordless vacuum cleaner range.

As a disclaimer before we go any further, I need to explain that I’m a hardcore, committed Dyson fangirl (sorry, pun intended). At our house we have the cooling fan, the heater, the Airwrap and a stick vac, and no, I’m not being paid to say this. They’re just that good and they always seem to work exactly how they’re meant to, if not better.

Since it had been a few years since we got our previous vacuum cleaner, we had no idea how much the technology had improved in the intervening period, and the new one was a bit of a game-changer.

Bigger and better

It’s bigger, it has more suction, it’s easier to empty, it has an LCD screen that tells you how much battery power is left and how long you can keep going for until you need to plug it in again.

It changes the suction level automatically depending on whether it’s detected hard or soft floors. You can use it on your upholstery. You can use it on the curtains.

We have a frequent visitor in the form of a neighbourhood cat who doesn’t seem to realise we’re not her owners, and she likes to leave us gifts in the form of epic clouds of fluffy, white fur. The new vacuum handles them like a boss.

If you have a stick vac that’s more than three years old and you’re on the fence about whether or not to upgrade, my advice is to go for it.

The Boing Effect

Unexpectedly, the V11 also makes an adorable ‘boinngggg’ noise when you turn it on, which we initially thought was a fault, but have since discovered it’s an actual side-effect of the sheer power harnessed by the machine.

Not only is it literally referred to by Dyson as ‘The Boing Effect’, but it has a cult following online.

Yes, this sounds like an ad, and no, again, I am not paid to write this. We’re literally that in love with a vacuum cleaner.

I just wish I could have a go of it one of these days.
