Hungary U21 0-0 Scotland U21: Doak misses late penalty in Budapest

Ben Doak missed a late penalty as Scotland Under-21s were held to a 0-0 draw by Hungary in Budapest.

The Scots were aiming for a fourth consecutive victory in Euro 2025 qualifying but the Liverpool forward's 87th-minute spot-kicked was pushed away by Krisztian Hegyi.

In a game of few chances, Scotland goalkeeper Cieran Slicker made a superb double save in the first half.

Scotland stay second in Group B, three points behind Spain.

The section leaders drew 1-1 away to Belgium, who are level with Scotland on 10 points after five matches.

The hosts, beaten 3-1 at Fir Park last month, almost went ahead in the 28th minute but Milan Vitalis shot wide after both he and Mark Kosznovszky had been denied by Slicker's smart reflexes.

From the resulting corner, Slicker had to make a brave stop from Mihaly Kata.

The Ipswich keeper then pulled off another good save to keep out a low drive from Zalan Vancsa.

There was an opportunity for Scotland on the stroke of half-time when Doak broke away from the halfway line but his shot was easily dealt with by Hegyi.

Scot Gemmill's side had slightly more of the ball after the interval and Dire Mebude threatened with an effort from 12 yards out that was deflected just wide.

Mebude was then upended as he cut into the penalty area after taking a lovely touch, but Doak could not profit as Hegyi dived to his right to save an effort that lacked power and precision.
