Hugh Grant Shares Unfiltered Opinion of New 'Bridget Jones' Movie
Hugh Grant recently opened up about his thoughts on the forthcoming Bridget Jones sequel film, which is due out in early 2025.
The actor appeared in the first film, titled Bridget Jones’s Diary, when it hit theaters in 2001. Three years later, he also starred in the sequel, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, though he did not appear in the third movie, Bridget Jones’s Baby, when it was released in 2016.

The Four Weddings and a Funeral star is, however, excited about the fourth film, which is due out in February. While speaking with Extra for an interview published on Tuesday, Nov. 5, the 64-year-old actor said he worked on filming for about a week for the new movie, which will be called Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy. Renée Zellweger, who plays the title character, is also returning for the fourth installment of the popular romantic comedy series, which was based on the Bridget Jones novels by author Helen Fielding.
“Definitely script-wise, I thought it was the best,” Grant said of the forthcoming film, though he admitted that he hasn’t seen it just yet. “It’s the one with the most heart,” he added.
Grant described the Fielding novel that inspired the fourth movie, which has the same title as the film, as “brilliant.” Fielding’s book “was really about her experience of bringing up her children alone after her husband died,” Grant said. “It’s very moving, but also very funny.”
Before the release of Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, Grant is also starring in a new religious horror movie called Heretic. When Extra asked the Notting Hill star how he feels about the wide range of characters he has played of late, from his romantic comedy and horror roles to becoming an Oompa-Loompa in 2023’s Wonka, Grant appeared positive about the breadth of opportunities he has embraced.
“I’m loving it,” he said.
