’Seriously?’: You’ve been saying ‘Bezos’ wrong
Yahoo Finance often reports on moves made by the world’s richest man, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, because when a man worth US$185.9 billion (AU$252 billion) speaks, we listen.
But after years of writing about Bezos, the reporters at Yahoo Finance realised something: they all say ‘Bezos’ differently.
Here’s an imitation of a recent Slack conversation amongst the team:
Anastasia ‘Guys - how do you say Bezos?’
Jessica: ‘I read it as bee-zos’
Anastasia: ‘Yeah, but some people say, like, behzos. Like a short ‘e’’
Jessica: ‘Behhhzos’
Sarah: ‘Oh, I say Behhzos. Wait, how do you say it?!’
This obviously went on for some time, so Yahoo Finance has condensed the conversation for our readers’ sake.
But it turns out we weren’t the only people baffled by the billionaire’s name.
I'm sure I've heard it out loud at some point but I seriously do not know how to pronounce Jeff Bezos

Jeff Bezos is worth $150+ billion and still can’t get anyone to know how to pronounce his name.

Some know, but prefer to say it another way:
I like to pronounce Jeff Bezos as Jeff Besos, and think about him giving me little kisses.

FYI: Besos is Spanish for ‘kissing’.
But the riddle is solved: Bezos is actually pronounced ‘bay-zos’.
The billionaire actually pronounced his name in a video for The Washington Post (which he owns) back in 2013.
Now you may all rest easy knowing this crucial fact.
