Yahoo Finance often reports on moves made by the world’s richest man, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, because when a man worth US$185.9 billion (AU$252 billion) speaks, we listen.

But after years of writing about Bezos, the reporters at Yahoo Finance realised something: they all say ‘Bezos’ differently.

Here’s an imitation of a recent Slack conversation amongst the team:

Anastasia ‘Guys - how do you say Bezos?’

Jessica: ‘I read it as bee-zos’

Anastasia: ‘Yeah, but some people say, like, behzos. Like a short ‘e’’

Jessica: ‘Behhhzos’

Sarah: ‘Oh, I say Behhzos. Wait, how do you say it?!’

This obviously went on for some time, so Yahoo Finance has condensed the conversation for our readers’ sake.

But it turns out we weren’t the only people baffled by the billionaire’s name.

Some know, but prefer to say it another way:

FYI: Besos is Spanish for ‘kissing’.

But the riddle is solved: Bezos is actually pronounced ‘bay-zos’.

The billionaire actually pronounced his name in a video for The Washington Post (which he owns) back in 2013.

Now you may all rest easy knowing this crucial fact.
