A sound technician dubbed “Hot Podium Guy” has taken the nation by storm.

Sure, Britain’s prime minister resigned this week, but people are taking solace in lusting over the man who set up the lectern for her beforehand.

The Man, dressed in a black T-shirt and dark jeans, appeared in front of 10 Downing Street in the moments leading up to Theresa’s May resignation speech.

He centred the lectern for Theresa May to speak, before adjusting the microphones and performing a quick sound check.

Short but sweet, his brief spell in the limelight was enough to get the nation talking.

Immediately after Hot Podium Guy finished setting up, Prime Minister Theresa May said a tearful goodbye, announcing she would stand down as Prime Minister on 7 June.

Now, in the midst of political upheaval, the yet-to-be-identified man has proved welcome light relief among Twitter users, who are using the hashtag #HotPodium Guy to refer to him.

He even winked at the cameras awaiting the Prime Minister’s appearance, according to some (although it may have just been the strong morning sunlight).

As we await the verdict on who will be the next Prime Minister following May’s departure on 7 June, some people are calling for #HotPodiumGuy to take control.

Others are taking a more bawdy tone in their tweets, remarking at a strange bulge in one of the man’s trouser legs.

For those looking to catch a behind-the-scenes shot of Hot Podium Guy, the internet has also proved fruitful.

All hail Hot Podium Guy, not the leader we need but the leader we deserve.
