Unlike some yoga classes these days that include goats or dogs that might perch on a yogi’s back, in horse yoga, the roles are reversed.

It’s the newest wellness trend to take off in LA and definitely something to try next time you head to California.

It combines meditation, yoga and equine therapy in a way that is safe for horse and rider.

Melissa Reese is the founder of Spirit Horse Yoga, which is located at SoCal Saddlery (an equestrian boutique), at the Huntington Central Park Equestrian Center, in Huntington Beach, California.

“I have loved horses as long as I can remember,” Melissa said. “I struggled with committing to a yoga studio on top of the commitment of riding consistently.

“I stumbled across Equine OM, an equine yoga instructor certification program. I instantly knew it was my answer.”

Pranayama is one of the most beneficial parts of horse yoga. connecting your breath with the horse’s breath is magical and meditative.
