Horror fans are absolutely hooked on the show ‘FROM’: ‘I haven’t watched anything that’s as scary and creepy’
According to sci-fi and horror fans, FROM is the best (and creepiest) new show you’re not watching — and based on the reviews so far, you might want to do something about that.
Season 1 of the show actually premiered back in February 2022 on Epix but has remained something of a sleeper hit ever since. For Season 2, which debuted just last month, the show was brought to MGM+ (formerly Epix and now owned by Amazon Prime), where it’s quickly picking up even more steam.
Based on Amazon Prime’s description of the show, FROM “unravels the mystery of a nightmarish town that traps all those who enter.”
But if that’s not enough to give you goosebumps, consider this: “As the unwilling residents fight to keep a sense of normalcy and search for a way out, they must also survive the threats of the surrounding forest,” the summary continues.
The series, which was created by the writer/producer John Griffin, stars Harold Perrineau as Sheriff Boyd Stevens, Catalina Sandino Moreno as Tabitha Matthews and Eion Bailey as Jim Matthews. It also scored a 96 percent “fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes, as well as an 86 percent audience rating.
It only takes a quick scroll through the reviews to show you why.
“One of the most underrated series I’ve ever watched, absolutely worth the time and investment,” one person wrote on Rotten Tomatoes.
“Loved this,” added someone else. “It’s a real puzzle of a show, and one that is maybe unsolvable.”
Even Twitter and Reddit can’t stop talking about the newly discovered show.

“I haven’t watched anything that’s as scary and creepy as #FROM,” one person tweeted. “this show is absolutely scary, but i’m a mystery and sci-fi nerd, so I will soldier on.”
Someone said the show is so good it’s giving them nightmares, while another declared it sorely underrated and “absolutely worth the time and investment.”
According to TVFanatic.com, Season 1 kicks off with a spine-tingling pilot episode that introduces viewers to all the key players. One of them is Sheriff Boyd (Perrineau), who appears to be patrolling an unnamed town on foot.
It doesn’t take long before viewers realize that something is deeply wrong with this town, which appears to be haunted in some creepy yet unexplainable way. All sorts of terrifying things have been known to happen at nightfall, which is why residents retreat into their homes as the sun goes down, lock their windows and doors and hope to make it to morning.
While some do, others don’t.
Critics have called the show “compelling” and “fast-paced” and said it isn’t afraid to get “gory” by killing off a ton of characters. Viewers have also compared it to LOST, but better, which is interesting considering Perrineau also starred in the ABC drama as Michael Dawson, and several producers on FROM were also behind the popular series.
This isn’t the first psychological thriller to hit the small screen and take a while to catch on, though.
In 2022, Netflix released Archive 81, an eight-episode limited series that the A.V. Club says is filled with “simmering tension and a gloomy, atmospheric vibe.” In it, a video archivist named Dan (Mamadou Athie) is hired for a special project: restoring VHS footage shot in the ’90s by a college student investigating a dangerous cult. As he works, Dan finds himself suddenly drawn into the investigation himself, as the past begins to blur with the present in all sorts of terrifying ways.
M. Night Shyamalan’s Servant, which just debuted its fourth and final season, is another recent sleeper hit that’s gaining more attention. In that series, a couple from Philadelphia (Lauren Ambrose, Toby Kebbell) struggles with the loss of their 13-year-old daughter before turning to a lifelike reborn doll to help them cope. But instead of bringing them comfort, strange and terrifying things start happening all around them.
Even if you’ve never seen or heard of these underrated hits, fans say FROM is definitely worth a watch — especially for anyone who loves shows like Yellowjackets, The Leftovers or The Last of Us.
