Former Home and Away star Sharni Vinson has shared an emotional tribute after the shock death of Nicholas Tucci at the age of 38.

Sharni and Nicholas starred together in the film You're Next, an American black comedy film that was released in 2011.

“The devastation and tragedy of this week has been hard to process,” Sharni wrote on Instagram.

“It was an honour to have known you and worked with you on You’re Next.

“Heaven claims another too soon.”

Nicholas Tucci, who also starred in SyFy's Channel Zero, sadly passed away at the age of 38 after battling a mystery illness he chose to keep quiet.

Nicholas’ father shared the news on the actor's Facebook page last week, explaining why he kept his health battle a secret for so long.

“To the friends of Nicholas Tucci: This is Alexander Tucci, Nick's father,” the post read. “On Tuesday, March 3, Nick died at the Smilow Cancer Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut.

“Nick chose to keep his illness private so that he could continue to pursue his professional and artistic dreams for as long as possible,” his message continued.

“In the last year, he was able to audition, go on location, and continue the work he loved so much. To those of you in the film, television, and theatre communities...thank you for guiding, encouraging, and supporting Nick.

“To those of you who enjoyed Nick's work on the screen and stage...thank you for recognising his talent and appreciating his efforts. To all...thank you for your gift of friendship to my son.”
