It was this time two years ago when Johnny Ruffo and his family were left to grapple with the shocking news he’d been diagnosed with brain cancer.

Now, after having recently shared two brain scans which confirm he’s cancer-free, Johnny has opened up about his recovery.

Appearing on Nova FM’s Fitzy and Wippa breakfast radio show on Friday, the 31-year-old former Home and Away star spoke of feeling “light” when he got the all-clear from doctors.

“It’s incredible, literally,” he told radio hosts Michael Wipfli and Ryan Fitzgerald.

“You know how people say the weight of the world has been lifted off your shoulders, it genuinely feels like that. I walked out after being told, ‘Oh you’re good’, and I just felt light.”

The singer and actor paid tribute to his girlfriend Tahnee Sims, saying, “If she hadn’t taken me to the hospital, then I wouldn’t be here now”.

Earlier this month Johnny shared a photo featuring two brain scans, one with his tumour in 2017, and a healthier image now.

“Exactly two years ago versus today, So glad to have beaten this horrible disease. Thankyou for all the support! #f**kcancer#braincancer,” he wrote on Instagram.

Back in October 2017, Johnny revealed his malignant brain tumour was originally misdiagnosed as depression.

Speaking with The Project’s Carrie Bickmore, he said his GP told him his symptoms resembled that of a mental illness.

“I’d even gone to the doctor, and the doctor said ‘You know, all the symptoms seems like depression,” he said.

It was only after Johnny presented himself to hospital one night after suffering an intense migraine that doctors discovered the tumour.

"After having found the tumor, the neurosurgeon said, 'No, no, it's not depression at all, it was because there was so much pressure being put on your brain, it was causing all these different symptoms'," he said.

He went on to have radiation and chemotherapy.
