A returning Aussie screen legend has sent jaws plummeting to the floor this week, sharing a hysterical throwback snap that left fans unsure if they were looking at the same person.
Logie-winner Cameron Daddo is returning to Aussie screens as Summer Bay’s latest older gentleman after a successful career in the USA, and a cheeky throwback snap from the actor might lead fans to think more than his location changed with his US move.
The actor took to Instagram on Thursday with a snap of himself a couple of decades ago looking very different.
“Twenty years ago I had dark hair and great teeth...” he captioned the snap of himself at 35.
The now-55-year-old is sporting some less than even teeth and a chestnut hairdo in the snap, a far cry from the dead straight chompers and mane of silver hair he rocks these days.
What many didn’t realise however, is the snap may be less of an accurate throwback than the cheeky star would have you think.
“Ah, I remember those teeth!” one fan reminisced.
“No!!! Surely not,” another wrote. “Has this been photoshopped?”
In a funny twist, the actor admitted that the snap was actually a set of fake teeth from a production.
“Real teeth... well real fake teeth,” he wrote. “No photoshop.”
A glance at old snaps of the actor’s time hosting Aussie TV series confirms that while he may have cut a different figure, he never sported quite so crooked a smile.
Cameron Daddo comes full circle from US success
Teeth aside, the actor is looking more silver fox these days, but the star who kicked off his international career with a role on Melrose Place spin-off series Models Inc in the 90’s is right back to his roots with his latest gig.
The star debuted on Home and Away on Thursday night as Evan Slater, Ryder Jackson's long-lost father.
The star has returned to Australia after a career studded with parts on hit series, film and even a stint or two on the Aussie stage.
The hysterical photo mirrors Cameron’s full circle move back to the Aussie screen, which he told WHO magazine marks a ‘new beginning’.
He first moved to the US with his wife, model Alison Brahe, at the age of 27. Now, 28 years later he is back.
“It’s all a cycle, it’s just where you jump on,” Cameron told the publication. “Where I’m jumping on, I’m having a new beginning and that’s what I’m seeing it as. I’ve not done a soap before, but I just really loved the character and I know a few of the cast members.”
The star has previously worked with co-star Georgie Parker before and counts the Gold-Logie winner among his friends.
