Home Alone fans lose it over subtle detail in movie: 'Never noticed'

Home Alone fans have been losing it after a TikToker pointed out a crucial detail that helps explain the iconic Christmas movie's plot.

Kevin McAllister, played by Macaulay Culkin, is left behind while his entire family goes on holiday for Christmas and is forced to fend for himself against burglars targeting homes left vacant for the holiday period.

Since its release in 1990, many fans over the years have been left wondering how a family could possibly forget their son – and there are two very simple explanations.

A TikToker shared a video of a scene where Kevin's father is cleaning the kitchen bench after the family littered it with rubbish from their pizza dinner.

As the dad collects the napkins, he scoops up what is presumably Kevin's passport and throws it in the bin along with an American Airlines ticket that has 'Kevin' written on it.

"Been watching Home Alone all these years and did not know that the dad threw away Kevin's ticket," a caption on the TikTok said.

Many fans were also shocked they had never noticed that subtle detail in the scene.

"I have never noticed that either," one commented.

"I noticed the ticket was thrown away but I never noticed that it actually says 'Kevin' on it!" another movie lover wrote.

"I’ve watched this movie HUNDREDS of times and never noticed!!!" a third added.

"They threw out his passport too! Just noticed that this time around watching," somebody else said.

Another fan on Reddit also offered another explanation as how Kevin was left home alone.

"When they counted the people for the trip they say there's 17 people in total," the fan wrote.

"An odd number between two vans means they will be split eight or nine.

"Since Kevin was missing both vans had eight people instead, making each group assume they were on the 8-people van, not suspecting a thing."

One also pointed out another detail in the scene they further explained why the parents did not notice.

"When I watched it last week, I realised why they point out the adults are travelling in first class, while the kids are in coach. Because if they were all in the same cabin, his mum would have noticed Kevin wasn’t there much sooner," the fan wrote.
