Hollywood star Zac Efron rushed to Australia after 'contracting infection'

Hollywood star Zac Efron has reportedly been rushed to Australia after suffering a medical episode while filming a new TV series.

Efron, 32, fell ill with what’s believed to be a bacterial infection and had to be flown from Papua New Guinea to Brisbane last week, The Sunday Telegraph reports.

It’s believed he was hospitalised in a stable condition.

Sources told the paper Efron was treated at St Andrews War Memorial Hospital in Brisbane’s suburb of Spring Hill. It’s a private hospital.

Yahoo News Australia has contacted UnitingCare, which runs the hospital, for comment.

The 32-year-old, who’s starred in films including Baywatch and Bad Neighbours, has been in Papua New Guinea filming his new series Killing Zac Efron.

The series, similar to Man Vs Wild, follows Efron giving up the luxuries of Hollywood stardom on an expedition into the wilderness.

Cyril Tara, a tour guide in Wewak, in Papua New Guinea’s north, shared photos on Facebook of himself with Efron on December 21.

It’s believed he may have been the actor’s tour guide.

Mr Tara also shared photos of Efron in a canoe. The pair spent time together in Pagwi, southwest of Wewak, earlier this month.

“I am very happy to be his guide,” Mr Tara wrote.
