Hoda Kotb moved to tears by “Today” cohost's gift of family portrait painted by George W. Bush

The sweet moment was part of Kotb's 60th birthday bash.

Hoda Kotb was overwhelmed with gratitude Monday, as Today celebrated her 60th birthday, which was Aug. 9, with a star-studded bash.

One moment that particularly pulled on her heart strings: Cohost Jenna Bush Hager presented her with a portrait of Kotb walking with her daughters. As if that weren't lovely enough, the work of art was created by none other than Bush's father, former President George W. Bush. (Watch in the video below.)

"I had my dad, who has started painting, paint your favorite photo of you holding your girls," Bush said, as Kotb unwrapped it. "I hope —"

Then Bush realized just how emotional Kotb was to receive such a thoughtful and — thanks to the artist — even historic treasure. "Oh no," Bush said in response to all the tears. "It's too much! It's too much! We have to go to a video. It's too much!"

Kotb is mom to young daughters Haley Joy and Hope Catherine, who she adopted in 2017 and 2019, respectively. Their father is Kotb's former fiancé Joel Schiffman.

"I tell them they were adopted, and I'm not sure if they 100 percent know what that means," Kotb said on PEOPLE's Me Becoming Mom podcast in 2021. "I always say, 'You didn't come from Mommy's tummy, you came from my heart.' And they understand that."

In addition to her gift from Bush, Kotb was treated to a performance of one of her favorite songs, "Wine, Beer, Whiskey" by artist Little Big Town, and to a message from Oscar winner Sandra Bullock herself (below). It, of course, came with Bullock's signature humor.

"I had so many brilliant and funny things prepared for you, for this message, that were just, just gonna slay" Bullock deadpanned. "but you know, girl, I'm just too tired. I'm tired because I had to make my way up that mountain before you got there, so I could check out the terrain."

Bullock, who turned 60 on July 26, offered what she's learned in a little more than two weeks.

"It's weird, because people seem to want us to be afraid of what it might look like when we get there. It tuns out it's pretty damn great. It's pretty awesome!" Bullock happily told her.
