Hilariously Hungry Horse Refuses to Miss a Meal, Rain or Shine

If you often find yourself hungry, you’ll know precisely where one funny horse is coming from. She’s not at all deterred by the whipping wind or the pounding rain when her tummy is rumbling. Unlike her siblings on the farm, who took cover in the barn, she cheerfully braved the elements for her meal.

In fact, she’s so happy to eat, she doesn’t seem to notice it’s raining at all. Watch this miniature horse show off her big personality in this video from August 28:

This sweetheart is famished, and nothing will stop her from munching on the fresh green grass. Perhaps Lady (@retzminiaturehorses) knows there’s no competition with her siblings, who are hiding from the rain in the barn, making this soggy meal even more inviting. I know I always prefer going to fall fairs in the rain to avoid long lines at my favorite food stands, so this is probably the horse equivalent. Or it’s her zebra-striped blanket that makes her feel she’s adequately protected. Whatever the case, we should all be this indifferent to our daily challenges. Eating in the rain or sun can be equally delightful with the right attitude.

Are Horses Bothered By Rain?

Horses have thick coats that can provide some natural protection from the rain, so most are not bothered by a passing shower. However, many will seek shelter when given the option, especially in heavy downpours. However, prolonged exposure to rain, particularly in colder weather, can make them uncomfortable or lead to health issues and skin conditions like rain rot. Penn State Extension states that to avoid scratches or greasy heels, which are similar to rain rot, it is crucial to keep their lowered legs clean from mud and moisture when exposed to long periods of wet weather.

Special attention must also be paid to their hoofs as thrush, cracks, white line disease, and abscesses can develop. It’s also essential to have a designated area for horses to go to during wet conditions to keep the vegetation in their grazing pastures from becoming damaged by heavy hooves. So, while they may not mind a quick shower and, in some cases, enjoy it, ensuring they have a place to go when the weather is wet for lengthy periods is critical. As it is with people, considering each animal’s personality and preferences can also ensure their comfort and happiness.

Perhaps Lady has a child-like spirit that makes an afternoon in the rain feel fun. When life gives you passing showers, chow down and make the best of it.
