Yahoo Lifestyle High-priced Dolphins CB Xavien Howard placed on PUP list with lingering knee injury
Seven months after undergoing knee surgery, Xavien Howard is still not ready to play.
The Miami Dolphins placed their starting cornerback on the physically unable to perform list Tuesday as training camp got underway. Howard underwent surgery on his injured left knee in December and is not fully recovered.

Howard aggravated a knee injury during an Oct. 29 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers and was placed on injured reserve. The team never revealed the nature of his injury or surgery.
Howard signed record extension last offseason
He has played five games since signing what was then the highest-paid contract for a cornerback last May for five years and $76.5 million with $46 million guaranteed.
The 27-year-old has had at least one other surgery on each knee since joining the NFL. He made a Pro Bowl after recording seven interceptions during the 2018 season that preceded his record-setting contract extension.
The Miami Herald reports that Howard is able to run at full speed but hasn’t been able to perform defensive back drills this offseason.
Being placed on the PUP list doesn’t preclude Howard from joining the Dolphins to start the regular season. The Dolphins can remove Howard from the list at any point during training camp. If he remains on the PUP list for Week 1 of the regular season, he will be forced to sit out through Week 6.
