On December 19, King Charles hosted his pre-Christmas Palace lunch at Buckingham Palace, but not everyone was in attendance for the festivities. Notably missing were Prince William, Kate Middleton, and their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—and of course, fans are wondering why the Wales family decided to skip the annual event. Apparently, the explanation isn’t that deep.

Per People, the Prince and Princess of Wales were never expected to attend the luncheon, as they’re already in Norfolk enjoying time at their country home, Anmer Hall. The couple and their children will then spend the holidays with the rest of the royal family at Sandringham, where Will revealed there are 45 guests (!!) expected to show.

“We’ll be in Norfolk, at Sandringham,” Wills previously announced, via People. “We’ll be 45 for Christmas. It won’t be quiet. It will be noisy.” And when asked whether he was prepared for the chaos, he simply replied, “Am I ready for Christmas? No. No way am I ready.”

So who’s on the royal Christmas guest list? I can tell you who isn’t! Rumor has it that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle weren’t invited to Sandringham this year (unsurprising), and although Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie did make the cut, the sisters are breaking tradition for the first time ever in order to spend the holidays with their respective in-laws.

Oh, and while Will reportedly really, really didn’t want Queen Camilla’s son, Tom Parker-Bowles, to attend, it seems his stepbrother will, in fact, be joining the fam at Sandringham. Sorry, Wills!

More royal drama is sure to come as the holidays approach, so stand by for updates.
