Here's what the kids from The Shining look like today

Widely regarded as one of the greatest horror flicks of all time, The Shining is a cult classic that remains a go-to at Halloween.

Based on Stephen King's novel of the same name, the 1980 psychological horror movie, produced and directed by Stanley Kubrick, left viewers disturbed and unsettled long after the credits rolled due to its unnerving tone.

Although Jack Nicholson's deranged portrayal of frustrated writer and father Jack Torrance sure scared viewers out of their seats, some of the truly haunting performances came not from Hollywood greats, but from child actors who have now largely disappeared from the public view.

So what are the kids from The Shining up to today?

Dan Lloyd (Danny Torrance)

Dan Lloyd was just 7 years old when he played young protagonist Danny Torrance in The Shining, but despite his well-received performance, he only starred in one more movie before retiring from acting at around 13 or 14.

In a rare interview with The Guardian, Dan explained how he kept auditioning for roles, but with no luck.

When asked whether he found the rejection upsetting he said: "No, I wouldn't say it was upsetting. I always enjoyed it. It was exciting. But as I got a little bit older, it got kind of boring."

Now a teacher, Lloyd quickly learned to not broach his acting career with his students, lest he gives them any ammunition for class disruption.

Louise and Lisa Burns (Alexa and Alexie Grady)

Louise and Lisa Burns were just 12 years old when they were cast to play the ghostly Grady Sisters in The Shining, Alexa and Alexie Grady.

Identical twins, Louise and Lisa were perfect as the deceased Grady Sisters, speaking in haunting hollow unison and sending chills through spines around the world.

Despite being so young and on the set of such a scary movie, the Burns twins say they weren't scared filming the movie.

"We saw people in scary makeup, but it always felt more like we were at an elaborate fancy dress party," the twins said in an interview with Cosmopolitan. "It just wasn't that freaky."

Like Dan, Louise and Lisa's acting careers ended soon after The Shining.

Although the pair did wish to continue acting, they were rejected by The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) as they were considered professional actors and eventually pursued different career paths.

"I went to an audition for RADA and they said they couldn't accept me because I'd been in the movie," Louise explained in an interview with the Daily Mail. "That made me a professional actress and they didn't accept professionals."

It wasn't all downhill for the twins though, they are both now accomplished professionals, with Lisa working as a lawyer and Louise a published scientist.
