If you've clicked into this, then I'm sure you'll agree: Pachinko is an absolute work of genius and is, by far, one of the best shows on Apple TV+. And that's an understatement. While I was initially doubtful that anyone could do Min Jin Lee's brilliant New York Times bestselling novel justice on screen, the show's creator Soo Hugh has proven all the doubters wrong.
The series has brought viewers to tears by breathing life and authenticity into this story of war, generational trauma, immigration, and family legacy. And, of course, who could resist the romance? I'm personally invested in the subtly steamy forbidden love affair between young Sunja (Kim Min-ha) and Koh Hansu (Lee Min-ho). Needless to say, we want more.
So is Pachinko season 3 happening?
Before even season 2 even premiered, Hugh had already laid out her plans for the whole series. In order to properly tell the multigenerational story, she's repeatedly said that her big plan is to have 4 seasons with 8 episodes each. So, yes! It looks like Pachinko will hopefully be back for a third season.
What is season 3 of Pachinko about?
To be clear: everything is still TBD on season 3. But what we know for sure is that it'll pickup wherever season 2 left off. We'll still be following Sunja's family as they go through the motions of their daily lives while navigating their complicated relationships, and grappling with the events of the past. Per The Hollywood Reporter, each season of the series covers one crucial point in history.
The first season is set in the middle of Korea's Japanese occupation, and the second is set in its tail end when World War II breaks out and American soldiers come to Korea to eradicate the Japanese. So the third will likely be focused on what comes after. Plus, Hugh has also said that each season represents one of the four seasons of the year. Season 1 was winter, season 2 is spring, so season 3 will likely be the fall.
Who's in the cast of Pachinko season 3?
At the moment, there have been no announcements about who's coming back for the third season. I think it's safe to expect Kim Min-ha to reprise her role, seeing as she plays Sunja well into her middle age. Of course, Youn Yuh-jung will still be playing Sunja in her senior years, and Jin Ha will return as Solomon. We can't really speak to the rest of the cast since we don't know the exact specifics of season 3's storylines just yet.
Sadly, we're not 100% sure that we'll to see the gorgeous Lee Min-ho in this season. It all depends on where Hansu's story leaves off in season 2. We'll just have to wait and see!
When will Pachinko season 3 come out?
It took more than two years for the second season to come out, so if we base it on that timeline season 3 should premiere in 2026. But here's to hoping it comes sooner! Of course, there have been no official announcements just yet and this is purely speculation. An earlier release is certainly a possibility we shouldn't completely rule out.
