If you’re sick of reading studies about how couples are happier and healthier, this will brighten your day.

A new study from the University of Auckland in New Zealand found that you can be just as happy when single as when you’re in a relationship (duh).

The study examined over 4000 New Zealand adults once and then again in a year’s time.

Researchers found that one-fifth of the group were single at both periods, while the rest had either become married, living with or dating someone at one point. The aim? To see if their overall wellbeing had changed over time.

They found that if you’re someone who tried to avoid drama or conflict in your life, you can be just as happy single as you are when you’re in a couple. What’s more, once you find a great person to be with, you can be happier in general.

Makes sense really, if the other option is a conflict-ridden relationship, you’re going to be happier single. But if you pick someone who is drama-free, you’ll be happy in all situations – single or in a relationship. Sounds good to us.
