What your eye colour says about your health

Turns out, your eyes are a window to the soul and your health, according to new research from the University of Vermont.

According to researchers, people with blue eyes especially are more likely to be alcoholics. And it’s not just a coincidence; scientists say there’s a genetic predisposition.

The study published in the American Journal of Medical Genetics Part B: Neuropsychiatric Genetics found that amount Anglo-Americans with light colours eyes have higher rates of alcohol dependency that people with dark brown eyes.

“We still don’t know the reason,” said researcher Dawei Li in a press release, but they believe that the genes that determine eye colour are located on the same chromosome as genes thought to be linked to alcoholism.

Not only did blue eyes seem to have the strongest link to alcohol dependency, there’s also a correlation with other attributes including a lower pain tolerance and a higher competitiveness.
