Turia completed the race – which included a 3.8km swim, 180km cycle and 42.2km run in 13 hours, 24 minutes and 41 seconds – an hour faster than her estimated time.

She told The Daily Telegraph: 'It's the hardest thing I've ever done. I don't have to do anything else any more.'

It was a sentiment matched by her partner, Michael Hoskin, who welled up as she passed the finish line.

“She couldn’t walk five years ago — look at her now,” he said after embracing her.

“It has brought a tear to my eye and I don’t normally cry. It has been an amazing journey. It’s the indomitable spirit of the human being.”

With her incredible journey to recovery Turia continually proves that the impossible is achievable and she truly embodies the term "inspirational".
