Harrison Ford’s ‘Indiana Jones’ Fedora Just Fetched a Record $630,000 at Auction
Iconic relics from Indiana Jones keep smashing records.
A brown felt fedora worn by Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom just sold for a whopping $630,000 during Propstore’s Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles. An unknown buyer paid top dollar for the prized piece, shelling out a cool $100,000 above the estimated bid of $250,000 to $500,000—and setting a record price for the screen- and photo-matched hat.

Previously, a different Jones-worn fedora made for the same film hammered down for a cool $300,000 during a 2021 Propstore sale. Before that, a hat from the Raiders of the Lost Ark prequel was snapped up for an eye-watering $500,000 in 2015.
“This fedora was made specifically for the second installment of the Indiana Jones series and matches film shots, production stills, and behind-the-scenes footage of Ford in the village set on location in Sri Lanka, in the mine cart chase shot at Elstree Studios, and in the river sequence shot in the U.S.,” Propstore wrote on its website.
The garment, which came from the collection of the late stunt performer Dean Ferrandini, was originally created by Herbert Johnson Hat Company in London. According to the auction house, costume designer Anthony Powell and assistant costume designer Joanna Johnston worked alongside the hatmaker to ensure that the sable-colored fedora had “a more tapered crown than the prior film.” Today, it features a dark brown ribbon and a leather sweatband. Interestingly, the bow on the ribbon was loosened during filming and had to be hand-stitched into place.
At the time of Friday’s sale, Propstore had already commanded a hefty $6 million on the first day of the auction. Other notable highlights from the event included a screen-matched, six-foot motorized filming model of Michael Keaton’s Batwing from Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman movie which brought in $406,250. Another leading artifact from the 450-item lot was an Imperial Scout Trooper “Biker Scout” Helmet from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi ($350,000).
“We are thrilled with the incredible success of the first day of our Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction,” added Propstore COO Brandon Alinger in a press statement. “The auction not only exceeded our expectations, but also highlighted the timeless appeal of franchises like Batman, Star Wars, Alien, and Indiana Jones — as well as landmarks like Forrest Gump and cult classics like Happy Gilmore. We’re proud to have connected such a wide expanse of fans with the historic pieces they cherish, and we look forward to the next three days of the auction.”
