All About Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart's Son Liam
Calista Flockhart adopted Liam in 2001, shortly before meeting Harrison Ford
Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart couldn’t be prouder of their son.
The Ally McBeal actress adopted Liam Flockhart Ford, 22, in 2001, just before she met and began dating the Indiana Jones star. Harrison, who had already raised his four elder kids, immediately took on a father figure role in Liam’s life before officially adopting him after he and Calista wed in 2010.
During a 2008 interview with Reader’s Digest, Harrison shared how grateful he was that both Calista and Liam came into his life.
“She’s brought a child back into my home,“ he said of his wife, adding: “It's a wonderful opportunity to be part of a child's growing up, which is always an endless springtime.”
He continued, “[Calista] devoted herself to Liam and has done a really wonderful job raising him. I’m happy to now have a part of the job."

Despite their A-list status, Harrison and Calista are very private about their relationship and family life. They raised Liam out of the spotlight and rarely discussed him publicly or shared photos of him online. He has, however, accompanied his famous parents at sporting events as he's gotten older and recently graduated college.
Here’s everything to know about Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart’s son Liam Flockhart Ford.
He was adopted by Calista in 2001
Liam was born on Jan. 1, 2001, in San Diego and was adopted by Calista.
“I am overjoyed that I have been blessed with a beautiful and healthy son," Calista, who was present at Liam's birth, said in a statement. "I'm completely enchanted and awe-struck.”
At the time, Calista was in the midst of filming the final season of her hit legal show Ally McBeal.
Harrison adopted him after marrying Calista
Harrison and Calista met at the 2002 Golden Globe Awards not long after Calista had adopted Liam, and the pair quickly began dating. Although Harrison had not expected to have any more children, he took on an active role in Liam’s life before formally adopting him in 2010 when he and Calista got married after dating for more than eight years.
“I wasn't expecting it at all,” he said of becoming a father again during a 2010 interview with Parade. “The unexpected part was certainly true and the joy part is also true.”
He added: “I think Liam was about 6 or 8 months old when I met him and Calista. We have been together ever since."
He has four siblings
Liam is the youngest of the Ford clan and has four older siblings: Ben and Willard, whom Harrison had with his first wife, Mary Marquardt, and Malcolm and Georgia, whom the actor welcomed with his second wife, Melissa Mathison.
Over the years, Harrison has been candid about his children’s large age gaps and what it has been like to parent at different stages in his life.
"I've got five kids in total, so it's not my first rodeo,” he told The Independent in 2010. “Yeah, obviously I'm getting older but I don't relate to it very much. It doesn't interest me as something to dwell on. I have a 9-year-old kid at home. I feel like the father of a 9-year-old kid.”
He continued, “My older children have taught me a lot about parenting. My first child was born when I was 25. I reckon I'm a little better at it now."
Calista took a break from acting to raise him
After Ally McBeal ended in 2002, Calista took a five-year break from acting to focus on raising Liam. She returned to television with her role as Kitty Walker on ABC’s Brothers & Sisters. However, according to the Los Angeles Times, she required some persuading from the show’s producers and only agreed to join the cast if she could work just two or three days a week in order to be home with Liam.
“With a child, I just don’t want to give up that much time,” she told the outlet in 2007. “I feel really fortunate that I’m able to make my own decisions about how much I’m going to work. It’s an amazing place to be and I’m kind of surprised I’m there. I’m in a place in my life where I’m just really happy.”
Following Brothers & Sisters, Calista starred in a few more TV shows over the years, including the CW’s Supergirl and the upcoming Feud: Capote vs. The Swans, but continued to make her family her priority.
Now that Liam is all grown up, Harrison shared with PEOPLE during a January 2023 interview that Calista is “just going back to work after having devoted herself to the raising [Liam] for the last 20 years” and that he would love to work on a project with her.
He’s passionate about sports
As a kid, Liam was very into sports and was often photographed attending various Los Angeles sporting events with his parents. In March 2014, the family of three was seen at a Los Angeles Kings hockey game against the Carolina Hurricanes. A few years later, Liam and Harrison attended a Los Angeles Lakers game in 2016.
Liam also played sports growing up. During a 2009 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Calista shared that her son had no interest in becoming an actor like his parents and was more focused on baseball. She noted that Liam’s favorite team was the Los Angeles Dodgers and that he even dressed up as a Dodgers player for Halloween that year.
“He was a ‘dodger dog.’ I thought it was so clever, he came up with it himself,” the proud mom told host Jimmy Kimmel, explaining how Liam incorporated his love of animals into the costume.
He’s an adrenaline junkie
Harrison is known for his love of flying planes, and Liam appears to share his dad’s passion for high-flying adventures.
During a 2019 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Harrison told host Ellen DeGeneres that he went skydiving for the first time in New Zealand, but only because Liam wanted to.
“It was his idea,” he said, “but it was fun, it was great. I did like it.”
He also said that they were talking about doing it again, noting: “We’re not talking to his mother about it.”
He graduated from college in May 2023
Liam graduated from Amherst College in Massachusetts in May 2023. The proud parents were spotted attending the graduation ceremony in photos obtained by Page Six. Calista wore a white dress and was seen taking photos of Liam on her phone, while Harrison wore a suit and posed for pictures with the new grad. For his part, Liam donned a cap and gown and held a chestnut cane, which is presented to each graduate as part of an Amherst College tradition.
Harrison and Calista had previously been seen on campus when they dropped Liam off at the start of the 2020 fall semester in style — the Star Wars actor flew the family there on his private plane.
