Hallmark's 'Three Wiser Men and a Boy' Stars Weigh in on the Possibility of a Third Movie
Three Wise Men and a Baby, Hallmark Channel's play on the 1987 classic Three Men and a Baby, was so popular at the network (it was the most-watched new movie of 2022) that it was bound to get a sequel. Now that sequel, Three Wiser Men and a Boy, starring original cast members Andrew Walker, Paul Campbell and Tyler Hynes, is here.
The story begins five years after the first with the Brenner brothers preparing for another memorable Christmas. This time, they find themselves putting on a holiday musical at Luke's son's school after its director steps down in a crazy turn of events. Meanwhile, the trio has to navigate meeting their mom's new boyfriend and the emotions that come with it.
Parade spoke with the three leads about working with kids, shooting the movie in three short weeks and whether fans can expect another installment.
Debra Wallace: I know the first movie was a fan favorite. So why did you feel that the sequel had to be made?
Tyler Hynes: We’re always listening to the audience. I certainly feel like I’m in service to the folks who watch these movies. If they want something more, I will do my best to accommodate them.
Andrew, why do you feel the original movie resonated so much with your audience?
Andrew Walker: I think there’s familiarity. Being parents, you lose your identity. Also, I think this is an ode to moms; a celebration of moms. I think a lot of mothers will watch this movie, single moms for sure, and realize that you need to focus on yourself. You need to have time for yourself, as well. It’s about carving out that time for yourself as a mom and for your mental health. I think it’s just a lot of this is something that people can draw familiarities with.

Paul, how did it feel to be wearing that elf outfit again and doing that Nutcracker Dance, which is such a hoot?
Paul Campbell: It’s a dream. When do we get to be this silly? It’s just about hanging out with people that you love the most in the world, making each other laugh and being silly. And there happened to be cameras nearby capturing all of it. I couldn’t imagine a better job or a better work environment. To be able to don the elf costume a second time was a dream come true.

Was the movie as much fun to make as it was to watch?
Tyler: There was a lot of work, honestly, that went into this movie. More than the first.
Paul: Work can be fun, but it was a lot of work. This was hard. We’re having fun now. Now that we’re taking a moment to breathe and we’re celebrating it and we’re looking back. Sometimes it got a little hairy in there. Sometimes it’s a very ambitious movie and trying to make that in three weeks was challenging.
There is a scene where a little girl is scared to sing but based on your encouragement, she does it. A tear dripped down my face when I saw that.
Andrew: I feel the same way. On the day it felt like that. It felt like a moment that gave you the chills. I’m so glad you said that, thank you.
Tyler: It’s a beautiful ending to a movie, wasn’t it? When they wrote this it was something special to read and it was beautiful—I’m glad you feel that way.
How was it working with all those children?
Andrew: Magical.
Tyler: Incredible and unique. Every single one of the children had their own funny contribution and there are so many characters in terms of their personalities. It was the best!
How long did it take to shoot the laser tag and the dance videos? Did you do a lot of takes? Or did you just catch it quickly?
Tyler: It was pure chaos.
Paul: Laser tag was absolute chaos.
Tyler: We had no time that day.
Andrew: We were out of time; we were just running around. It was like guerrilla filmmaking. Now, the Dance Revolution thing, a lot of time went into that, from conceiving the idea to choreographing the idea.
Paul: Yeah, it was a lot of work to get to the place.
Andrew: Our producer was building that game. They built the video game around the moves that Tyler had choreographed. Tyler did not do the moves that that video game had. They built that game around the dance that Tyler came up with. So, they made that game.
Would you embrace a third one, if that came to you? And why?
Tyler: We will always listen to our audience and take into account their feelings. Our job is to stay ahead of the curve, if we can, and give people things that are new and exciting. I think we’ll take in the reaction of what occurs and whatever seems like the most fruitful next journey and next chapter, wherever that takes us, that’s what we’re going to try to build. So, what’s fun about it is the mystery of what will be next. We’re always open to it.
Paul: It may or may not happen.
Andrew: That was a big, fat maybe for you.
Three Wiser Men and a Boy premieres Saturday, Nov. 23, at 8 p.m. ET on Hallmark Channel.
