Game of Thrones star's Emmys looks sends fans into a frenzy

Game of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie sent social media into a frenzy as she arrived to the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards in a renaissance-inspired gown.

The 40-year-old actress wasn’t quite ready to say goodbye to the world of Westeros as she stepped foot on the purple carpet in a Gucci gown that looked straight out of the hit HBO drama’s costume department.

Christie made headlines earlier this year when it was revealed she submitted herself to the Emmys as a potential candidate, ultimately earning a nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama.

“I checked that it wasn’t an inappropriate thing to do, and I was told it wasn’t,” Christie told the Los Angeles Times.

“People submit themselves all the time. I truly never expected it to manifest in a nomination and I don’t think anybody else did either.

‘But I just had to do it for me. And I had to do it as a testament to the character and what I feel she represents.”

Now her Emmys look has drawn mixed reactions from social media.

The biblical look has already spawned countless memes and tweets from fans including, “God is a woman, and her name is Gwendoline Christie.”

“Gwendoline Christie is the only woman alive that can pull that look off,” one fan of the actress wrote.
