Police are investigating a teenage boy’s links to street gangs after he was shot at home in broad daylight in Melbourne’s west.

The 18-year-old was allegedly shot in the upper body about 3.40pm at the Orlando Drive home in Truganina on Thursday.

He was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police have now revealed the Gang Crime Squad would take control of the investigation following information that linked the teenager to gangs.

The alleged offender is believed to have fled the scene and remains on the run.

Police believe the shooting was targeted, though the exact circumstances around the incident are unclear.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police.

It is the second time a teenager has been shot inside a Melbourne home this month.

A 17-year-old boy was earlier shot through his bedroom window while asleep at his family home in Endeavour Hills.

Police said the shooting was also believed to be a targeted attack but that the teenager and his family - who were also asleep inside - were not the intended targets.
