Green Day rushed off stage during Detroit concert after unauthorized drone flies over show

Green Day was rushed off stage mid-performance during a concert in Detroit on Wednesday night, purportedly after an American idiot flew an unauthorized drone over the venue.

In video shared across social media, Billie Joe Armstrong and co. were mid-performance of their hit "Longview" at Comerica Park before a member of security ran onto stage, causing the group to promptly make their exits. A few moments of silence were followed by a message on the video screen to attendees: "Show pause. Please standby for details."

The Detroit Police Department confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that the delay in the show was due to a drone.

Police located the individual who flew the device outside of Comerica Park. "He is being detained pending further investigation," DPD Capt. Dan Donakowski told The Detroit News.

EW has reached out to reps for the band, who said they were also awaiting more information about the disruption.

It was a relatively minor one, as the group returned to the stage about 10 minutes after they evacuated, picking up with "Longview" right where they left off before diving into "Welcome to Paradise."

Green Day addressed the delay on X, formerly known as Twitter, that night. "Detroit! Sorry for the delay in the show tonight. Stadium security had us clear the stage while they dealt with a potential safety issue," the band said in the post that appears to have since been deleted. "DPD quickly resolved the situation, and we were able to continue. Thanks for understanding."

The group is currently in the midst of their Saviors Tour, launched in support of their 14th studio album of the same name, but also in celebration of their beloved albums Dookie and American Idiot, which turn 30 and 20, respectively. The current North American leg of the tour features the Smashing Pumpkins, Rancid, and the Linda Lindas, while the forthcoming European leg will feature Nothing But Thieves, The Hives, Donots, The Interrupters, and Maid of Age.
