Iconic show Golden Girls recast with Black actors

The iconic show The Golden Girls is getting an all-Black cast for a special one-night only performance for charity.

The hit 1980s comedy series will undergo a re-imagining for a special ‘Zoom Where it Happened’ virtual watch party, and will star Alfre Woodard, Tracee Ellis Ross, Sanaa Lathan, and Regina King.

Ellis Ross gave fans a peek in a video on her Instagram account which shows her cast in Betty White’s role as Rose Nylund.

Regina King will star in as Dorothy Zbornak, Sanaa Lathan as Blanche Devereaux, and Alfre Woodward will play Sophia Petrillo.

Fans were understandably excited about the news.

“OH LORD!!! Golden Girls is my favourite nighttime tv show and has been for years,” one fan commented.

The Golden Girls ran on NBC from 1985 to 1992 originally starring Beatrice Arthur, Betty White, Rue McClanahan, and Estelle Getty.

They played a group of pensioner roommates living it up in Miami.
