Zee, 43, took to Instagram this week to issue a passionate plea to her fans, propositioning them to take on the "No New Things Challenge" and refrain from purchasing any new unnecessary items during the holidays.

In a selfie-style video uploaded to the platform, the TV personality said she's been practicing this mindset for two holiday seasons now, while gifting her friends and family "services" and "experiences" rather than material "things" that contribute to overconsumption and impact the environment.

"'Tis the season for NO NEW THINGS," Zee wrote in her post, while imploring her fans in the caption, "I would love for more of you to join me in the #nonewthingschallenge."

"I’ve done it the last two seasons and it’s a wonderful challenge to re-set your consumptive mind," the weather reporter wrote, while noting in the video that the challenge starts this week and lasts until the first week of January.

Many fans in the comments were receptive to Zee's plea, including one fan who said they have been "slowly working on this" idea recently. "Thank you for the great example you are putting out there," that same user added.

"So inspiring Ginger!" another Instagram user gushed.

But, there were also, of course, some skeptics who had questions about the idea. One person in the comments asked, "But what about the economy?"

In response, Zee wrote in a comment, "supporting local restaurants and spas etc for gifts—that's our local economy!"

Additionally, Zee suggested buying products from secondhand stores when it comes to an item that you find yourself really needing.

"Love that you promote this❤️," another one of her followers wrote under the post.

Another person chimed in, "You are a great example of how to treat the planet."
