“GMA” host Lara Spencer undergoes double foot surgeries to treat college injury: 'These boots were made for walkin'
The broadcast journalist treated a diving-related injury.
Lara Spencer is on the mend after not one, but two foot surgeries.
The Good Morning America co-anchor — who has been absent from the show this week — revealed in a recent Instagram post that she underwent double foot surgeries, and that one of which stemmed from an old college injury.

Writing that she just got a "new pair of boots" and quipping that she wished they were cowboy boots instead, Spencer shared that she had a plate removed from her right foot on the heels of a surgery last year. That procedure was "easy," she said, but the left foot was a much "bigger deal" and stemmed from a college diving injury.

"I was doing a reverse one and a half and hit the board, shattering toes and joints," she shared. "Back then they said there was nothing you could do except tape it, let it heal, and live with the pain. Today there are much better options."
Spencer thanked her surgeon for his work, sharing a selfie with him alongside a photo of her bandaged feet. "These boots were made for walkin," she concluded the post.

Spencer studied broadcast journalism at Pennsylvania State University, where she was a nationally ranked diver on the college's swimming and diving team. She recently shared a homage to her former diving coach, Craig Brown, late last year amid his battle with cancer, revealing that she and more than 40 other diving alums visited Brown in his hometown "to do for him what he did for all of us both in the pool and in life — help us BELIEVE, never give up, and find the will to keep on fighting for victory."
"Iff anyone can show cancer the door, it's you," Spencer wrote.
The broadcast journalist has been vocal about her health struggles, revealing on GMA in 2016 that she would undergo hip replacement surgery; she cited a genetic predisposition. "I’m terrified," said Spencer on air at the time. "It was embarrassing to share, but then I realized there’s nothing to be embarrassed about. I have a genetic predisposition to this, but if you’re athletic and you move, it’s happening younger and younger.”
