'GMA' Alum T.J. Holmes Reveals Disappointing Health Update Following Struggle With 'Severe' Pain

T.J. Holmes is opening up about a recent health setback—and runners everywhere can relate.

The former GMA anchor took to Instagram on Tuesday, Nov. 27, to share a series of photos from a recent visit to the doctor, where he was given some unfortunate news regarding a damaged ligament.

"Damn. DAMN. DAMN!!! Hard words for a runner (like me) to hear: 'You need to stop running,'" Holmes wrote in his caption. "Post-marathon pain got severe enough that I went back to the doctor who tells me I possibly have a ligament tear … or a ligament strain, at best. He put me in a brace and told me not to run for the next 4-6 weeks. 😧Guess that gives me enough time to get ready for #NYCMarathon2025. 🏃🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️#RedemptionRun."

Holmes' followers were quick to wish him a speedy recovery in the comments.

"Looks painful! Take care," wrote one fan.

"Oh bummer so sorry! It’s definitely hard not to be able to run! Hope you heal quickly 🙏," chimed in a second Instagram user.

"The word 'rest' went in one ear and out the other, eh? Lol, cheers to NYC 2025! You got this!" commented a third person.

As Hello! reported, this isn't the first marathon-related injury Holmes has suffered. His participation in the NYC Marathon came shortly after he was hospitalized following his participation in the Chicago Marathon, which he left in an ambulance after sustaining an Achilles injury.

Holmes and his girlfriend, Amy Robach, opened up about the incident on their podcast, Amy & T.J., following the race, explaining that somewhere around mile 21, Holmes' condition began to deteriorate.

"All of a sudden, you went so pale, and you just started vomiting, like, on the street," Robach said.

"They said, 'We're gonna call an ambulance,' because they just got nervous at that point and understandably so," she added.
