Yahoo Lifestyle Giants kicker Aldrick Rosas charged with 3 misdemeanors in high-speed hit-and-run
Aldrick Rosas, kicker for the New York Giants, was formally charged with three misdemeanors on Wednesday following his arrest for a highway hit-and-run in June.
The Butte County, California, deputy district attorney charged Rosas, 25, with reckless driving, hit-and-run and property damage, and driving with a suspended license due to a previous DUI. According to the district attorney, Rosas was arrested in 2016 for driving under the influence
The hit-and-run took place on June 15 at around 8:30 a.m. Witnesses say they saw Rosas driving between 90 and 100 mph on a highway near Chico, California, when he allegedly ran a red light and T-boned a pickup truck. Rosas allegedly fled the scene on foot when he wasn’t able to drive away and was found nearly four hours later, wandering down a road less than a mile from the accident. Police who found Rosas said his hands, legs, and bare feet were covered in blood.
In his report, the California Highway Patrol officer who found Rosas said “alcohol impairment is believed to be a factor in the collision,” but no breathalyzer was administered. Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey explained that decision to the New York Post.
“They could determine alcohol on his breath, and it was determined he had been drinking,” Ramsey said, “but highway patrol felt that after three hours, they could not determine what his alcohol level was some three hours before, or whether he had been drinking in the meantime. They chose not to do an alcohol test.”
When reached for comment, the Giants had little to say. “We are aware of the situation and have been in contact with Aldrick,” they said in a statement via the New York Daily News. “We have no further comment at this time.”
Rosas will be arraigned on Sept. 4, but does not have to appear personally and could send his lawyer to appear for him. The Giants re-signed him to a one-year, $3.259 million contract in April.
