Game of Thrones final season air date announced

It’s the TV series that’s had us hooked from the start and now it’s finally been confirmed that Game of Thrones eighth and final season will premiere in Australia on Monday, April 15, 2019.

And the finale season is set to be bigger than ever, with six movie-length episodes – running as long as 90 minutes – available express from the US, exclusively on FOX SHOWCASE.

The announcement was made at the end of a new teaser trailer for the eighth season titled, “Crypts of Winterfell,” that looks just as eerie and intense as we’d all hoped.

As well as this, fans should expect to see plenty of action, with the season said to contain one of the biggest battle sequences in the history of TV series – directed by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss alongside David Nutter and Miguel Sapochnik.

And as for the end, well we’ve been warned by A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin to prepare for a “bittersweet” final chapter.

In it’s past seven seasons, Game of Thrones has become an epic phenomenon attracting record viewers across the globe and an impressive nine wins at the 2018 Primetime Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Drama Series.

And it seems this year it could be in the running to take out the honour yet again.

If you feel like you may need a refresher before April comes around, every episode from the seven seasons is currently available to stream through Foxtel On Demand and on streaming service Foxtel Now.

In the meantime, here’s how fans have reacted to the news:
