Forget a Watch. Prince Harry Just Inherited Millions for His 40th Birthday.
Prince Harry got a rather extravagant birthday gift when he turned 40 this past weekend.
The royal is said to have inherited millions of dollars upon reaching the milestone, the New York Post’s Page Six reported on Monday. That’s thanks to his late great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, who established a family trust fund in 1994 that left some £19 million (about $25 million) to Prince Harry and his brother, Prince William.

“It was a way in which the Queen Mother could set aside money for when her great-grandchildren were older and a way of passing a slice of her estate down in a tax-efficient way,” a former palace aide told the London Times. “It was a way in which some of her estate could be ring-fenced for them.”
The brothers were reportedly set to receive nearly $8 million (£6 million) when they turned 21 and an additional $11 million (£8 million) when they turned 40. Details haven’t been made public, the Times noted, but palace sources think that Harry may have been left a bigger share of the money than William was, as William would come into an even larger fortune as the heir apparent once his father, King Charles, ascended the throne. Page Six reached out to a representative for Harry but did not receive comment.
While Prince Harry has been at odds with the royal family since he and his wife, Meghan Markle, defected and moved to California in 2020, the estranged royal did receive birthday wishes from his family on Sunday. His father, King Charles III, and his brother both wished him a happy birthday on social media—although some have speculated that Markle was cropped out of the photo shared by the royal family. (They’ve since disputed that claim.)
For the festivities, Harry planned to celebrate at a party organized by Markle in their hometown of Montecito, Page Six noted. That’s in contrast with last year, when the couple enjoyed beers and brats at a German brewery with their Archewell staff. And while the millions received by Harry upon the occasion of his birthday are likely appreciated, he recently told People that the best gift he’s ever gotten are his children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
“The best gift I’ve ever been given is, without doubt, my kids,” he told the magazine. “I enjoy watching them grow every single day and love being their dad.”
