The Tella Balls Dessert Bar Is Your Nutella Fairy Tale Come True

Once upon a time, there was a jar of Nutella. It smelt of chocolaty roasted hazelnuts, felt like liquid gold to touch and tasted delicious, eaten by the spoonfuls.

But one day, two men came along and decided to create the dessert bar of their dreams - turning everyone’s favourite childhood treats into the most amazing desserts anyone could ever image.

That’s how Sydney’s Tella Balls Dessert Bar in Dulwich Hill was born.

Since day one, co-owners Aki Daikos and Simon Kappatos have barely had a moment to breathe the dessert bar has been so busy feeding Nutella fiends.

“The reaction so far has been phenomenal. It has been an amazing opening month with record crowds… We’re really blown away by all the support we’ve gotten so far,” Daikos says.

Their grand Nutella plans spurred from their love of the simple childhood classic - Nutella on white bread.

But the guys have come a long way since then, with their anything but simple Nutella creations.

“The most laden Nutella treat would have to be our now famous Tella cone, which is a doughnut cone, dipped in Nutella and served with Nutella soft serve serve,” Daikos says.

You may be familiar with the Tella Ball Shake - the Nutella-filled doughnut on top of a chocolate milkshake that sent the internet into a frenzy. That was them at Erskineville’s Foodcraft Espresso. Now fully absorbed in the Dessert Bar - that shake is a mere speck on the Nutella-heavy menu.

People are going crazy for their signature crepe, “The FRUITELLA - an original crepe served with Nutella, fresh strawberries, fresh banana and topped with vanilla bean gelato,” he says.

Others opt for making a fool of themselves trying to demolish the wackiest dessert on the menu - the waffle burger. Daikos says it’s “NOT FOR THE FAINT HEARTED, just watching our patrons face trying to get through it is priceless.”

“We are constantly in the lab trying to create bigger, better and crazier desserts,” he says but one of Daikos’ top Nutella picks is The Gelat-dough.

“It’s a doughnut shaped, doughnut flavoured gelato on a stick and we’ve been lucky enough to be the only dessert bar to launch this product in Sydney,” he says.

Speaking of being the only dessert bar creating these incredible sweet treats - they are adding two brand new additions to the store from Monday April 11 - the Golden Tella Ball and the Choc Crackle Tella Ball.

“The Golden Tella Ball,” Dailkos says, is “filled with a caramel and butterscotch centre, the Golden Tella Ball is topped with crumbly biscuits and sprinkled with gold dust and served individually with vanilla bean gelato ice cream or as a Golden Tella Ball shake.”

For their Choc Crackle Tella Ball, they are taking you on a trip down memory lane until April 26, recreating the breakfast of your childhood.

“It’s covered in chocolate and coco pops. But as you reach the middle, the distinctive crunch of cereal and milk is recreated with a chocolate ganache and coco pops centre.”

With Daikos and Kappatos showing us Nutella’s true potential, we can finally live happily ever after knowing their incredible Tella Balls creations are just up the hill.
