Yelp names its Top 100 Places to Eat in Australia for 2016

Yelp, the app that publishes crowdsourced reviews about local businesses has announced its top 100 places to eat in Australia for 2016.

This year's list is a perfect mix of classic favorites, up and comers, and affordable and fancy spots.

What’s great about Yelp’s list, compared to the more exclusive restaurant lists around, is that majority of the eateries happily sit in the ‘cheap and cheerful’ category.

So who decides which cafes, bars, restaurants and pubs make it on Yelp’s delectable directory?

Data science brainiacs analyse which places were the most popular and well reviewed since Yelp’s launch in Australia in 2011.

They compare businesses from across the country, rank them according to ratings and number of reviews, while also accounting for quality and popularity.

The result is a list that combines classic favourites with hot, new eateries.

Melbourne’s Chin Chin stole the show at number one. No surprises there given it’s a banging hot spot!

Sydney’s dumpling king Din Tai Fung ranked second, followed by Perth’s Toastface Grillah in third place, Sydney’s Bourke Street Bakery in fourth and in fifth place is last year’s number one Mamak.

According to this list, Western Australia seems to be an up and coming foodie destination, with four of the top ten eateries and 38 of the top 100 places to eat for 2016, the winning state. See the list below.
