Simple food hacks that will change your life

Every few weeks scientists, mathematicians or people who have way too much time on their hands are telling us we’re eating or doing something wrong.

So to keep you up to speed with all the new and improved ways of preparing food, we’ve put together some simple food hacks geniuses from around the world have come up with that are bound to be life changing and time saving!

1. How to eat pancakes

Whichever way you’ve been eating pancakes for however long, forget it.

To get the most out of your pancake experience, you need to layer them on top of each other, smother them with butter and then cut a square hole in the middle.

You should then fill the hole with maple syrup and cut triangles out of your pancake stack, which you can dip in the hole for bite size pieces of deliciousness.

2. How to cut a cake

No matter how many birthday cakes you’ve baked and cut into “perfect” triangular slices, it doesn’t matter because science has proved there’s a smarter, more perfect way to cut a round cake.

You should make two large cuts directly down the middle of the cake, remove the rectangular piece to a plate, then push the two remaining cake halves together, repeating this process until you have no cake left.

This means sacrificing the ancient triangular cake slices for modern day squarish/rectangular ones, controversial we know but hey, the times they are changin’!

3. How to use chopsticks

People went cray cray for this chopsticks hack on Twitter. You know that wooden piece at the end of disposable chopsticks?

Well, there's a perfectly reasonable explanation as to why they are there.

They're supposed to be used as a tiny footstool for the chopsticks when you're done eating so they don't get dirty. Who would have known.

4. How to cut a pizza

Finally we can put an end to unfairly cut pizza slices with this highly complex yet revolutionary curved monohedral disc tiling cut.

Two mathematicians put their genius heads together and found out you could achieve perfect pizza equality by cutting your pizza in a slight curve from the centre.

Create six slices like this then halve those pieces into what will end up looking like 12 shark fins.

After some more curved cuts the end product looks something like kites. This technique can be repeated a few times to make up to 36 slices. Equal pizza for everyone!

5. How to break off Toblerone

You've been exerting way too much energy than you need to when trying to break off a piece of Toblerone.

According to this video, you needn’t grab the entire piece in your hand forcing it to break off.

All you have to do is lift one finger and simply push the piece inwards rather than outwards and it should just snap off, simple as that.

6. How to destem a strawberry

Hate having to chop half a strawberry off just to get rid of the little green stem?

Don’t waste another scrumptious red berry again with the straw-berry method. Get it?

Simply stick a straw through the base of the strawberry and the stem will come right out the top!

You’re left with a perfectly in tact stemless strawberry, top, tail and all.
