Californian company creates world's largest chocolate sculpture

Finally chocolate lovers have a place to worship.

Qzina Specialty Foods in the US have created the world's largest chocolate sculpture, an 8273kg model of an ancient Mayan temple.

Qzina’s Corporate Pastry Chef Francois Mellet designed the model, which stands at six feet tall and took over 400 hours to complete.

The solid chocolate pyramid is exactly one-tenth the size of its original, the Temple Kukulkan at Chichen Itza.

Qzina took on the Guinness World Record, which had stood at over three tonnes since 2010, to celebrate the company's 30th anniversary.

Ancient Mayans were chocolate pioneers. The Mesoamerican culture was the first to cultivate the cacao tree, and worshipped the cacao bean.

The sculpture is on display in Irvine, California until December 21, the date that marks the end of a 5125 cycle in the Mesoamerican calendar and the subject of countless theories of Armageddon. The sculpture is set to be destroyed on that date - with noone saying how just yet.
