Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay is known for his foul potty mouth, not his kind words.

However, during the 48-year-old’s first Reddit Ask-Me-Anything (AMA) question and answer session, he took everyone by surprise when he extended a helping hand to a young, struggling chef.

The star of Hell’s Kitchen proved to be a popular topic of conversation, with more than 11,000 comments made in the stream.

But one cooking enthusiast was given the opportunity of a lifetime when he complained about the industry.

"Listen - if you send me your resume, I could look at putting you into one of the restaurants as a work experience, if you want to see something different, in order to make sure you don't come off the rails, to see something different, to create that level of interest," Ramsay wrote.

The swearing Scotsman understands the hardships of cheffing more than anyone – after forgoing any formal training, Ramsay famously worked his way up through the ranks under the likes of Marco Pierre White.

And it seems he might finally be mellowing in his old age.

The Kitchen Nightmares star also dished out some other words of wisdom on his post: "Never trust a fat chef, because they've eaten all the good bits."

We hear you Ramsay!
