Have you ever paused while trussing a chicken for the Sunday roast to think that perhaps there was something a little...saucy at hand?

After reading the famous erotic yarn 'Fifty Shades of Grey', keen cook and now author FL Fowler saw some stark similarities between the soft-porn trilogy and goings on in the kitchen.

It was while tying the ankles of a compliant chicken for roasting that Fowler had a Eureka moment.

"I realised why some of the scenes in the book were so strikingly familiar. It turns out I've been practicing BDSM for years — but with poultry," the author wrote in an email interview with People.

The newly inspired food industry professional, who penned the parody under a pseudonym, has been developing recipes for years, but confesses this is the first time he or she has ever "delved into this dark, forbidden side of poultry preparation".

More than just a cookbook, the author says 'Fifty Shades of Chicken' explores the emotional journey between the chef and his chicken.

"There's a bit of Christian and Anastasia Steele in every dish," writes Fowler.

The book is set to be published by Clarkson Potter on November 13, which should spice up Thanksgiving dinner tables in north America with dishes like Mustard-Spanked Chicken, Dripping Thighs, and Bacon-Bound Wings.

Other food-related 'Fifty Shades' parodies include the very British-sounding 'Fifty Shames of Earl Grey' and another recipe book, 'Fifty Shades of Bacon', which features recipes for bacon bits and other pork products.
