Flock of 8,000 ducks holds up traffic as they cross the road

This is not a bad joke setup.

A flock of 8,000 ducks held up traffic in Vietnam. A farm owner recorded footage of the incredible moment in Buon Ma Thuot. The farmer told Newsflare that the massive flock was making the trip to get to a rice field. The ducks had to traverse a road and a small river. Drivers and passersby simply waited for the bustling birds to walk by — luckily, it only took about 2 minutes.

The video shows thousands of white and brown ducks hurrying across the road like a giant wave of feathers. Perhaps, most notable is the sound: a chorus of quacks and squawks. It definitely makes for a mesmerizing, yet disorienting scene.

While ducks are known to cross roads and stop traffic — you’ve probably seen those “duck crossing” signs — drivers shouldn’t hit the brakes. Stoping for the animal might seem respectful, but according to the Star Tribune, it has led to pileups on the highway.

“Motorists should not stop or swerve for wildlife. They usually lose control, cause a crash or [are] hit,” Illinois State Patrol Sgt. Troy Christianson told the paper.

The patrol suggested to always be aware of surroundings as a driver and if an animal is detected, slow down and move off the road. Stopping or swerving is simply too dangerous. In most cases deploy the “3-second rule.” If there are 3 seconds between you and the car in front of you, you can likely avoid an accident.
