Flight attendant baffles TikTok with list of behind-the-scenes facts about her job: ‘That is NOT fair’

There are plenty of things about being a flight attendant that someone with a normal job (whatever that means) might find odd.

They work crazy hours. They’re always on the go. They could be waking up in a new country every day.

That’s not all, though. A flight attendant is currently going viral on TikTok after sharing even more unique, little-known facts about her job.

Ally Rae Case, who appears to work at American Airlines, has been posting a series of videos in which she answers the questions she “always” gets about her job.

One tidbit that seemed to take viewers by surprise: her income. Case claimed in one of her clips that flight attendants “only get paid” while the plane’s boarding door is closed.

“Yes, once the door closes, the clock starts,” she says in her video. “Once it opens, the clock stops. So your flight attendants are not getting paid during boarding and deplaning, so be especially nice during those times.”

Many commenters seemed shocked by that info, calling the practice “unfair” and “wrong.” However, it’s a pretty standard practice.

According to Business Insider, many airlines only pay their flight attendants for “flight hours,” which are the times when the plane is away from the gate. Still, many airlines (including American) pay their attendants a small, hourly rate ($2.20 as of 2019), when they’re away from home for work-related reasons.

Case’s video touched on plenty of positive details too. The TikToker explained that, thanks to her job, she can fly anywhere in the U.S. for free. Internationally, she only has to pay the exit taxes for the country she’s leaving.

The flight attendant also shared some pretty wild details about the job itself, including that she “always” has a suitcase packed, never flies the same routes and can sometimes work as many as five flights per day.

She also jokingly revealed that, yes, flight attendants do eat airplane food — just like the rest of us.

Many TikTok users enjoyed Case’s facts, while others were upset about the flight attendants’ pay situation.

“That is NOT fair,” one user wrote.

“Imagine not getting paid half the time you’re at work. Wow,” another added.

“So much good information,” another wrote.

Case isn’t the first flight attendant to share her experience on TikTok. Last month, a flight attendant went viral after explaining the biggest hotel hacks she’s learned on the job.

Meanwhile, another TikToker drew millions of views after showing the dirty parts of a plane that passengers should never touch.
